Modelo / Model:   Tamiya, 1/35
Notas / Notes: The diminutive Sd. Kfz 2 'Kleines Kettenkraftrad' has fascinated modellers and vehicle enthusiasts for many years. Manufactured by NSU during and after the Second World War, this unique tracked vehicle was used in every theatre as a reliable tractor to tow anything from small artillery pieces to the Me262 fighter/bomber.

There were quite a few areas that I reworked on this model. The front mudguards were replaced with laminated plasticard, along with new sidelights. I reworked the rear underside to suggest an exhaust, while replacing the rear mud-flaps with plasticard. Moving to the front forks, the suspension links in the kit are simplified and over scale, so I again replaced them with plasticard. If you do the same, take careful note of the angle of each link. I didn't and the fact that the wheel touches the ground is more by luck than judgement! I replaced the Notek front light with a Tamiya item and added the characteristic upper and lower canvas splashguards from thin lead foil. The tail light mount was also remade in plasticard. The only etched brass I used on the kit was the mesh in the engine cover.

The tracks are the final irritation in the kit. Their profile and size is accurate, however the edges are far too thick. My solution was to grind each link with a large round dental burr in a power tool, while the parts were still on the sprue. With approximately 33 links per side, the final assembly is movable which greatly helps with fitting them to the model.

Since appearing in TMMI, I have replaced the main light with a 'Grief' 5mm clear resin lens and added the missing trailer electrical connection above the rear Notec light.
